FORMICA BRILLANTE “OFF BLACK” is a wearable sculpture created by Marcel Katz with the Dalí Universe. Inspired by Salvador Dalí’s recurring use of the ant, its irregular front and elongated temples translate the insect’s anatomy into an object of surrealist design.

Each temple concludes with a spoon or fork tip, transforming familiar utensils into sculptural elements. The Off Black frame is handcrafted in Fiorano Modenese, Italy from Italian cellulose acetate, with contrasting Shocking Pink details. Salvador Dalí’s signature appears on the temple and lens.

Inside the frame, two quotations extend the work’s surrealist language: “I don’t do drugs. I am drugs.” and “Have no fear of perfection, you’ll never reach it.”

Each frame begins with Italian cellulose acetate, shaped and polished by hand in Modena. Artisans refine every line until the form feels inevitable. Precision replaces speed, and every gesture preserves intention.
