SCHOLAR
Conceived in 2023, the Scholar emerged from a simple question: what if a frame could carry the spirit of a sketchbook, a notebook, or a worn volume of collected thoughts? Rather than drawing inspiration from trends within the eyewear industry, the design was developed as a study of observation, curiosity, and the accumulation of knowledge over time.
Its silhouette balances structure and imperfection. The front presents a confident architectural form, while the sculpted temples introduce an organic rhythm reminiscent of hand-drawn lines, weathered landscapes, or the gradual erosion found in nature. These contrasting elements create a frame that feels both intentional and instinctive, refined yet expressive.
Handcrafted in Modena, Italy, the Scholar is produced using premium Italian cellulose acetate and traditional manufacturing techniques passed through generations of artisans. Each frame is individually assembled, shaped, polished, and finished by hand. The final paint application, detailing, and finishing process are personally completed by Marcel Katz, creating a direct connection between the object and its creator.
The Scholar is not intended as a seasonal accessory. It is conceived as a wearable sculpture, designed to age alongside its owner and become part of their personal archive. Subtle variations between pieces are expected and celebrated, serving as evidence of human craftsmanship rather than mechanical uniformity.
Today, the Scholar remains one of the defining forms within the Maison Marcel archive. Its distinctive sculptural temples, balanced proportions, and collectible nature reflect the brand's ongoing philosophy: preservation over production, individuality over repetition, and objects created not for the moment, but for the archive of tomorrow.

Archive Note
The Scholar represents one of the earliest expressions of the Maison Marcel design language. While future editions may explore different materials, finishes, and lens studies, the underlying silhouette remains a reflection of the ideas that inspired its creation in 2023: curiosity, observation, creativity, and the pursuit of individual perspective.
