Formica Brillante "Carne"
Story and Legacy
Story and Legacy
The FORMICA BRILLANTE Carne represented the union of surrealism and design, where function became imagination. Inspired by Salvador Dalí’s Space Elephant and his fascination with transformation, this work translated surrealist symbolism into wearable sculpture. Its elongated lines, tactile finishes, and tonal balance evoked the duality of delicacy and strength, blurring the boundary between adornment and art.
Handcrafted in Modena, Italy from sustainable cellulose acetate and 18k gold hardware, this edition was limited to 115 pieces worldwide, plus 11 Artist Proofs and 5 Trial Proofs. Conceived in Miami and realized in partnership with the Dalí Universe, each piece featured temple tips shaped as spoons and forks, a surreal homage to Dalí’s culinary motifs. Officially recorded in the Dalí Universe Catalog, the Formica Brillante Carne remains a cornerstone of the Maison Marcel archive and a testament to preservation over production.
