Created while Marcel Katz was living in Golfe Juan, beside Vallauris, where Pablo Picasso lived and worked, Professor Picasso Lava reflects the artistic history and visual energy of the Côte d’Azur.

The Italian acetate combines deep burgundy, black, magenta and electric pink in a layered composition reminiscent of molten stone, painted ceramic and volcanic movement. The pattern shifts across every surface of the frame, allowing each angle to reveal a different visual composition.

Professor Picasso Lava also marks an important point in the development of MARCEL. It was the first eyewear piece on which Marcel Katz engraved the lenses by hand, introducing a process that would later become part of the studio’s visual language.

The Professor silhouette features a sculptural rounded form, pronounced keyhole bridge and substantial temples. Slightly wider than the Scholar, it was designed for a comfortable medium-to-wide fit.

Finished with pink gradient lenses, hand-engraved lens details, metal hardware and MARCEL studio markings.

This piece was created as a singular experiment and will never be reproduced in this color, treatment or configuration.

The acetate pattern, hand-engraved lenses and final studio treatment are unique to this frame. No second example will be created.

Every order includes the frame, a leather case, a Maison Marcel presentation box, an outer protective box, a microfiber cloth, authenticity card, certificate of provenance, and the printed care booklet.

A care booklet is included with every order. Clean the lenses with the provided microfiber cloth. Store your frame in its leather case when not in use. Keep it away from heat, alcohol-based products, and salt water. Treat it as you would a collectible object.

Each frame begins with Italian cellulose acetate, shaped and polished by hand in Modena. Artisans refine every line until the form feels inevitable. Precision replaces speed, and every gesture preserves intention.
