Description

Formica is a work created in connection with the collaboration between Marcel Katz, Maison Marcel, and the Dalí Universe. The partnership brings together Marcel’s world of collectible eyewear, contemporary art, and cultural storytelling with the surreal legacy of Salvador Dalí.

The ant, known in Dalí’s visual language as a symbol of decay, obsession, transformation, and the strange intelligence of nature, becomes the central figure of this piece. Marcel reimagines the ant not as something small, but as something monumental. It becomes a symbol of survival, memory, and the unseen forces that build history.

Through the FORMICA project, Marcel extends the Dalí Universe into his own creative archive, translating surrealism into paintings, objects, eyewear, and collectible artifacts. The work reflects the shared language between Dalí and Marcel: imagination without permission, beauty inside imperfection, and the power of turning strange symbols into cultural icons.
