FORMICA · Collector’s Artifact
Off Black
Standard Edition · 1904
Formica Off Black is restraint made physical. Light is absorbed, edges quiet down, and the silhouette reveals itself slowly, like an object studied in low museum lighting. It carries Dalí’s universe without spectacle, allowing proportion, tension, and control to remain the primary language.
In Dalí’s world, ants were never decoration. They signaled entropy, obsession, and the slow work of time against permanence. Here, they become structure. Off Black holds that pressure in stillness, a wearable artifact where decay is not chaos, but design.
Created by Marcel Katz, founder of Maison Marcel, in collaboration with the Salvador Dalí Universe, Formica continues a shared exploration of symbolism, memory, and objecthood. Katz approaches eyewear as wearable sculpture, translating Dalí’s iconography into form, proportion, and detail, so the frame reads like an artifact rather than an accessory.
Honoring Salvador Dalí’s birth year of 1904, this Standard Edition continues the Maison Marcel × Dalí Universe collaboration under Archive 001. Each colorway is produced in a limited series of 1904 pieces worldwide, micro produced and never repeated in the same configuration. Every frame is individually numbered in Maison Pink script inside the temple and mirrored on the archival presentation box, formally entering each piece into the Maison Marcel × Dalí Universe archive.
The Formica silhouette carries Dalí’s emblem of the ant as a meditation on transformation and persistence. In Off Black, the symbolism becomes a study in contrast, depth meeting reflection, control meeting imagination. The temples conclude with Maison Marcel’s discreet spoon and fork motif, a quiet reference to Dalí’s fascination with everyday objects elevated into surreal icons. Salvador Dalí’s signature appears on the temple and again on the lens, preserving his presence at the periphery and within the line of sight.
Designed in Miami and handcrafted in Modena, Italy, each frame is finished by artisans whose eyewear heritage dates back to the 1950s. Subtle variations and irregularities are inherent to the handmade process. No two pieces are identical. Every pair differs quietly from its sister pair, confirming its status as a singular work of wearable sculpture.
This Standard Edition does not include the sculptural Dalí stand. Please allow up to 4 weeks for shipping due to the handmade production process. For tailored assistance, allocation support, or display questions, contact hello@maisonmarcel.it.

Philosophy and Symbolism
The Formica silhouette carries Dalí’s emblem of the ant, a recurring symbol of transformation, persistence, and time. In the Off Black edition, the frame becomes a meditation on contrast, depth meeting reflection, control meeting imagination.
The temples conclude in Maison Marcel’s discreet spoon and fork motif, a quiet reference to Dalí’s fascination with everyday objects elevated into surreal icons. Each gesture of wearing or removing the frame becomes a deliberate, performative act.
Every piece is handcrafted in Modena by artisans whose eyewear heritage dates back to the 1950s, then finished with precise painted details. Salvador Dalí’s signature appears on the temple and again on the lens, preserving his presence both at the periphery and within the line of sight.
This Standard Edition does not include the sculptural stand. Collectors interested in acquiring a matching stand or seeking tailored assistance may contact hello@maisonmarcel.it.
